Healthy Habits: Go Out and Play for Mother's Day

Do you remember playtime when you were young? Winter or summer, we spent every minute we could running, playing games, and racing each other. If you have young kids in your life, celebrate Mother’s Day by reliving those playground days and releasing your inner child again. Along with getting more fit, you’ll have fun in the process and it could bring you closer to your family. Encouraging regular activities together will improve your children’s fitness and give you all a healthier lifestyle too. It's a win-win for everyone. A few ideas:
-          No special courts are needed! Local parks are great for chasing, catching, batting, stretching, hopping, jumping, and skipping.
-          Take along a ball and the whole park can be your playground. A softball bat and ball will have the whole family running between your makeshift bases. Or take a Frisbee and get to throwing and catching – how much exercise you do will depend on your fellow Frisbee throwers’ aim!
-          If the weather foils your outdoor plans, dance along to music or even play dance games on the Wii or Kinect. Your kids will love to watch you and join in the fun... although it might be worth checking that no one's recording!

-          Go back to basics and teach the kids how to hopscotch – it doesn’t get much cheaper than chalk and 10 stones. Or how about shelling out a dollar or so for a jump rope?
