Consumer Critique: New Games from Blue Orange

I love Blue Orange Games. Everyone that I've had a chance to play has been fun, easily adaptable to number of players and ability levels, and a good combination of logic, strategy, and entertainment. I had a chance to review some new games for fall, and they were no different.

Flying Kiwis is a bit like tic-tac-toe - but with a major twist. These poor birds can't fly, and need to sneak into a fruit crate to get to go on vacation. Instead of just placing the kiwis, though, players launch them with mini catapults, trying to get four in a row or square. The catapults don't let the kiwis fly too far, but players need to adjust carefully to get kiwis in the right order to win. It can be played with 2-4 players and is designed for ages 6 and up (to adapt for younger players, it's easy to just let them play without the catapult).

In Zero Down, low score wins! Players trade cards, keeping an eye on the combinations their opponents have, trying to cancel out point values by grouping cards by color or number. Although it says 8 and up, a slightly younger child would be able to grasp the strategy. For play with younger kids, they can aim for pairs or groups without point scoring. This game can also be played with 2-4 players.

Kingdomino is similar to another, more advanced game I've played before, but scaled down to work for kids ages 8 and up. Players create their own 5x5 kingdom, making sure to match at least one side with something already on their grid. It's a good mix of chance and strategy, which means that it's not always the smartest player who ends up with the richest kingdom!

Blue Orange Games can be found at a variety of retailers - check the store locator on the page to find one near you!
