Caring Causes: The Re-Bra Initative

The Brem Foundation, one of the only non-profit organization devoted to early detection of breast cancer through education and testing, recently launched the Re-Bra Initiative. The Brem Foundation’s Re-Bra initiative is a unique and easy way for breast surgery patients – and all women – to donate their pre-surgery bras to low-income women who cannot afford bras of their own.

After women undergo breast surgery, their pre-surgery bras do not fit anymore. Re-Bra's mission is to give women, especially those who have undergone breast surgery, a way to transform their bras into vehicles for good. Re-Bra creates a mutually beneficial, yet anonymous, relationship between women who have undergone breast surgery and low-income women who cannot afford bras. Their goal is to receive 1,000 donated bras before the end of the year.

The Brem Foundation’s other goals are twofold:
1.       Raise money to help women who have had (free) mammograms that come back abnormal get follow-up, expensive diagnostic testing
2.       Recruit and train “Brembassadors” – both women volunteers and physicians – to educate women in their communities about the benefits of and need for early testing

To donate, mail new or gently used bras to: Brem Foundation, 8121 Georgia Avenue, Suite 600, Silver Spring, MD 20910

For women in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, all 22 Pure Barre locations have Re-Bra donation boxes on-site.
