“Before I wrote 'Walking With The Penguins,' I had been thinking about creating a song with penguins in it for quite a while, ” says Laurie Berkner. “There were requests from kids and teachers, I love the way penguins move, and I knew it could be a song for the colder months without being related to the holidays or the weather. When I saw a video of penguins being taken for a 'walk' around a zoo in Basel, Switzerland, I immediately knew what to call this movement song for kids. I thought it would be fun to play with the contrast between trying to sit still (as children are often asked to do) and the undeniable urge to get up and move. Now I'm just waiting for the Penguin Walk to become a viral TikTok dance!”
