Have you ever listened to an airplane announcements? Attendance always remind passengers to put their own oxygen masks on before helping others. It's true - you aren't any good to anyone else if you haven't taken care of yourself. That's the idea behind Time for Me: Daily Practice for a Joyful, Peaceful, Purposeful Life, a book I recently got to review.
What I liked about the book is that it was realistic. The wisdom is effective, and it's not preachy or condescending. It has a simple three-step method (mindfulness, universal energy, and power of thoughts). This universal energy concept is written in such a way that it's appropriate for people from all belief systems. It is intended for daily practice, with a weekly format, and is pretty easy to put into place, as it doesn't take a great deal of time, and the benefits of lowered stress show up almost immediately.
The 49 brief chapters each look a different need in life - forgiveness, gratitude, change, and many more. It also has simple empowering steps to change.
