I recently had a chance to review The Endangereds by Philippe Cousteau, world-renowned environmentalist and multi-Emmy-nominated TV host, author and speaker, and Austin Aslan, author of the TURBO Racers series. The book follows a group of endangered animals that want to save a dying earth, struggling with rising tides and increasing temperatures.
Like most adventure books, there is a villain, unexpected twists and turns, sneaking around, secrets, and more. There is also a lot of daring action as the creatures are determined to save the animal kingdom.
My daughters both enjoyed the book. My animal-loving daughter loved the environmental themes, and my action-loving daughter loved the suspense. It's a good book for reluctant readers, because the plot moves along quickly; but it will have broad appeal in the middle grades.

Austin Aslan is the author of the TURBO Racers series and the Islands at the End of the World series. A National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, he can often be found camping in a tent on a punctured air mattress. In other lives, Austin drove ambulances way too fast, served as an ecotourism Peace Corps volunteer in a Honduran cloud forest, and managed a variety of campaigns. He lives in Flagstaff, Arizona.
