As featured on the cover of the May edition of Story Monsters Ink and inspired by real-life stories of her father’s adventures as a young boy, author Lindsay Ann Fink created Ronnie the Rabbit to pay homage to his determined spirit and remind children they can also do great things. In “Ronnie’s Pool,” the first book in a planned series, Fink introduces readers to Ronnie, a very curious rabbit who is always wandering about all the exciting things he could do and how things work.
One hot summer day, Ronnie asked his dad if he could build a pool in their yard and his dad handed him a shovel and told him if he wants one, he needs to go dig one. Determined to make the pool of his dreams, Ronnie spent months digging the hole for the pool with the help of some friends along the way, but it was not finished until the winter and at that point decided to use it as an ice-skating rink. Once summer finally came around again and the ice thawed out, Ronnie and his friends were able to celebrate their hard work and enjoy the nice refreshing pool all season long!
“When I was little, my Dad would tell me funny stories from his childhood including the time he built a pool just like Ronnie does in the book,” said Fink. “My Dad has always been very driven, which I think is something lacking in kids these days, so I was inspired by his determination to create stories children can relate to and be motivated by that if they want to do something, go and do it!”
Fink collaborated with illustrator Michele N. Tupper on the delightful art concept for the book and recommended the idea of incorporating real photos with the illustrator’s watercolor art to help the book come to life. Children of all ages will be delighted and inspired by Ronnie’s determination and realize they too are capable of great things. About the Author
Lindsay Ann Fink has been in the teaching field for over twenty years. As a teacher, she has always been on the lookout for fun interactive books that children can enjoy reading again and again. Her first children’s book, “Thomas the Turkey,” did just that and was awarded the Royal Dragonfly Book Award by Story Monsters Ink. Fink believes in writing stories that come to life in the hearts and imaginative minds of children and has a whole series planned around Ronnie’s adventures.
