Music Minute: David Morris - Broken Heartland

Country artist, singer-songwriter and rapper David Morris strips away the glamour in the honest “Broken Heartland” music video, available everywhere today. With over 110M streams worldwide from his shattering viral hits including “Carrying Your Love” and “Dutton Ranch Freestyle,” Morris' newly released “Broken Heartland,” whose video premiered exclusively on Holler, shows how he “seamlessly fuses heartfelt, George Strait style Country with pinging trap beats and blazing hip hop in a way that feels completely unique” (Holler).

"One of my goals as an artist and songwriter is to tell it like it is. I don't glamorize or sugar coat. I'm reporting live from the heartland,” shares Morris. "'Broken Heartland' is a glimpse inside the everyday struggles of my home state… and I think even if you're not from West Virginia, you might be able to relate."

Co-directed by Morris and his frequent collaborator, filmmaker Emad Rashidi, the stripped-down music video was shot at the abandoned Lake Shawnee Amusement Park in Mercer County, W.Va.. Chosen for its uncertain past, including rumors of it being haunted due to being built on top of a Native American burial ground, the location was fitting for a song that encapsulates how the past bleeds into the present if no one takes action to make change. The Charleston, W. Va. native pulls from the childhood experiences in Appalachia that shaped his life and continue to inspire his music.

Morris is currently on the road supporting 10 stops on Kidd G's The Kidd Next Door Tour before joining Jelly Roll for select dates. For dates and more information, visit davidmorrisofficial.com and keep up with Morris on  TikTokInstagramFacebookYouTube and Twitter.
