Fun Freetime - Pop-Culture-Inspired Maternity Halloween Costumes For 2023

It’s never too early to start planning your Halloween costume, especially if you’re currently expecting a baby and want to include your bump as part of the special occasion.

Whilst we still enjoy the classic fits, from pumpkins to skeletons and zombies, there are lots of memorable maternity-themed moments in pop culture that act as the perfect costume inspiration for when October 31st rolls around this fall.

Whether dressing up to go trick or treating with the kids, or enjoying the festivities with friends and family at home, for those looking for unique and trendy ways to incorporate a baby bump into their Halloween costume this year, look no further. The team at Your Baby Club has rounded up their top picks of pop-culture-inspired maternity Halloween costumes.

The full content can be found below, or for more exclusive insight please just let me know.

  1. Barbie Midge

Barbie is set to be the hottest Halloween costume of the year, with fans eagerly waiting to recreate some of the movie's iconic looks, from the hot pink western cowboy outfit to Barbie and Ken’s iconic rollerblade leotard and the less conventional Weird Barbie costume.

For a quirky way to join the fun, why not go as Barbie Midge, the discontinued pregnant doll featured in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie? Searches for the doll spiked by 1150% following the launch of the film - proving just how iconic the character is.

The look would be simple to recreate at home, you’ll need a purple floral print dress and a long ginger wig, or alternatively, add two simple plaits to the front of your hair. The Midge costume is simplistic, as the main element is your beautiful bump!

  1. Kourtney Kardashian's Pregnancy Announcement

Kourtney Kardashian’s pregnancy announcement is notably the most iconic of the year, and arguably one of the most memorable of the decade. It’s a simple costume to recreate and can be put together using items in your wardrobe.

Just grab yourself a mesh long-sleeve bodysuit, leather trousers, and black wig and finish the look with a cardboard cut-out that says ‘Travis I’m pregnant’. Your partner can even go as the iconic Travis Barker, with a fake tattoo sleeve, leather trousers and wooden drumsticks.

  1. Rihanna Superbowl

Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime show has to be one of the most iconic moments in pop culture for 2023. The singer-songwriter and makeup mogul announced her pregnancy with her second child during the show, while wearing a red jumpsuit, leather-look bralette, and turtleneck bodysuit and finished with her iconic cherry red lipstick.

This is the perfect showstopper look if you're attending a spooky event on the 31st of October, and it will surely stand out in the crowd, and that's not just because it's bright red.

  1. Kim Kardashian American Horror Story

If you’re a Kardashian superfan, you’ll be familiar with the trend of recreating Kim’s iconic Met Gala look from 2013, when the American media personality, businesswoman and actress wore a floral printed long-sleeve dress while heavily pregnant. This year, Kim has inspired a completely new Halloween costume.

American Horror Story’s latest season features Kim Kardashian, and in the teaser, we catch a glimpse of the actor, with what appears to be a spider maternity bump. This look is a little more complex to create and will take a little time and crafting.

The bottom layer of the costume is a metallic co-ord or a fitting black dress, which is then dramatically paired with a giant spider that is formed into a maternity bump. You can get really crafty with this costume, by using materials to mould and shape the spider. Finish the look with a long, icy blonde wig, bold false eyelashes, and ruby red lipstick.

  1. Spider-Verse Jessica Drew

Jessica Drew, also known as Spider-Woman, is a fictional character part of the Spiderman: Across The Spider-Verse movie. What makes Spider-Woman so iconic is that she is the first pregnant superhero to hit the big screen in a comic book movie. The character is an elite member of the multiverse, and she continues to fight the good fight while pregnant.

This costume can be purchased online or can be created using a black figure-hugging unitard, finished with additional cuts of red fabric to recreate the costume.

  1. Look Both Ways

Now this is the perfect duo costume. Look Both Ways is a Netflix movie that follows the journey of Natalie whose life splits into two parallel realities, one where she discovers she is pregnant and living in Texas and another where she is living her single life in Los Angeles.

Your friend will wear a structured pink suit, heels and a long blond wig (or sport your natural hair) while you’ll wear an oversized jumper, dungarees and a cropped blond wig.

  1. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Earlier this year Netflix released the story of Queen Charlotte as part of the Bridgerton series. The regency-era show follows the journey of Queen Charlotte and King George, and their marriage and pregnancy journey. It’s safe to say that regency-era-inspired costumes will remain a top pick this Halloween, as fans eagerly await the new season.

You can purchase the Queen Charlotte costume directly from Amazon, or you can recreate the look using selected pieces from your wardrobe and accessories from eBay, charity shop hunting and more - look for crystal jewellery, figure-hugging corsets and evening gloves.
