Book Nook - Damned (Morningstar Academy, Book Two)

After reading Cursed, I had a chance to check out Damned (Morningstar Academy). I was glad I didn't have to wait, after the cliffhanger the first book ended on.

In this book, Glad has started to learn more about Morningstar Academy, her mentor, and some of her classmates. She still finds herself in the midst of conflict between her instinct telling her to protect humans and her teachers forcing her to hurt them. Realizing that current events are part of a prophecy, Glad, along with some of her classmates and her former angelic warrior squad, try to seek the prophecy to learn about it and figure out how to protect the humans on earth and Glad's new home.

Like the first book, this book has a lot to offer - suspense, relationships, conflicting loyalties, and more. It has an interesting take on end-times prophecies, and a lot of realization that things aren't always exactly what they seem - and they often won't turn out the way we expect. I devoured this book quickly, getting caught up in the changing relationships and growth of the characters - which sometimes seems a little rushed, but in the pacing of the book itself, it works just fine. It's a very concisely written book, especially for a work of fiction, which means that it will be accessible even to reluctant readers.
