Fun Freetime: Queen of Cakes

Now, at a time when creative baking is all the rage, a delicious new series is joining the lineup of fun and informative shows on Kosher.com. Part edible art to admire, part feel-good drama, Queen of Cakes takes a deep dive into the world of cake decorating with master baker Shaina Dubroff. The series premieres June, 2020 on Kosher.com.
Queen of Cakes invites you into Shaina’s studio to watch her astonishing cakes come alive. Every jaw-dropping, one-of-a-kind creation is customized for an extraordinary nominee who truly deserves to “take the cake.” Along the way, Shaina demonstrates baking and decorating techniques that viewers can incorporate at home.
In addition to fabulous cakes, the underlying theme of Queen of Cakes is to surprise an unsuspecting person with a major cake upgrade – someone who really deserves it. “There are so many everyday heroes – teachers, healthcare workers, caregivers, volunteers – who go about their day just doing what needs to be done and expecting nothing in return,” said Dubroff. “I want to help people give back and say, ‘We see you. Thank you for making the world a better place.’”
Once the masterpiece is completed, the cameras roll as the unsuspecting individual receives an unforgettable surprise: a hand-crafted confection that’s every bit as sweet and special as they are.
“We’re thrilled to launch a brand new series with the Queen of Cakes herself,” said Jenna Grunfeld of Kosher.com. “Shaina is a cake decorator par excellence and a skilled teacher. We can’t wait to learn her pro tips and tricks of the trade – and at the same time, acknowledge good people who quietly make a difference.”
Sneak Peek – Queen of Cakes EPISODE One - Airing June, 2020:
In the first two-part episode, Vivvi of Teaneck, NJ, has come into the bakery to ask Shaina to create a tea party-themed bat mitzvah cake for her daughter. Chana, Shaina has learned, is a terrific girl who goes above and beyond to help out at home and with friends while keeping up her stellar grades at school and volunteering, too. Vivvi wants an extra special cake for her extra special daughter.
Viewers join Shaina in the kitchen as she whips up the creation and shares years of wisdom as a successful decorator and teacher. Finally, in episode 2, we’re treated to an emotional “big reveal” as Chana sets eyes on an over-the-top creation that’s beyond her wildest dreams.
About Shaina Dubroff
Shaina Dubroff has been decorating cakes since the age of 16. After moving from England to the U.S. with her family, she began working at a bakery in Brooklyn. It wasn’t long before the young decorator gained fame in the kosher community and beyond for her head-turning artistry and technique. Today she is co-partner of Cake & Co., a boutique kosher bakery in Teaneck, NJ, known for stunning and imaginative baked goods for all occasions. When she’s not designing and assembling her edible masterpieces, the mother of three teaches private and group lessons on the art of cake decorating.
