My mom just taught us how to play this game on a recent camping trip. It can be played with 2+ players (just add more decks of cards, about 1 deck for every 2-3 people). The game has other names, and detailed rules can be found here (includes variations).
Deal each person 8 cards, face down. Cards are arranged in two rows of four, and any two are turned up. At each person's turn, they have the choice of drawing a card from the draw pile, or picking up the top one from the discard pile. Once they have a card in hand, they have three options: replace an existing face-up card, replace a face-down card without looking at what it is, or match it with an existing face-up card to clear columns (example, if I have a four facing up and draw a four, then I take the four that's on the table and the card above or below it and discard). When doubles are cleared, the non-matching card goes on top of the discard pile.
Number cards are worth their own value, face cards are all worth ten, and ace is one, and a joker is negative three. The object is to score as few points as possible.
