Now that school's begun, if you have school-age children, there's the issue of what to feed them during the day. If you're lucky enough to have inexpensive school lunch, that's always a great option - especially if your kids aren't picky eaters. It's easy, usually nutritious (depending on the district/school) and offers variety. Many schools offer a la carte options, as well, so students can buy just a salad, or fruit, for example.
If your kids pack lunches, though, there can be battles over getting them to have enough healthy things, or the time it takes to make the lunches each day.
One easy way to avoid this is by letting your kids do the work. Get a three-drawer organizer. Put shelf-stable, healthy options in each drawer. When it's time to pack a lunch, your kids can pick one from each drawer. All you need to do is toss in the main course and the lunch is done! This works well if you pre-pack lunches using leftovers as you put the leftovers away in the fridge.
Examples for each drawer:
Drawer 1 - fruits - fruit snacks, bananas, apples, pears, oranges (none of these need to be refrigerated if they'll be used up quickly), shelf-stable fruit bowls, fruit leather
Drawer 2 - starches - graham crackers, Goldfish crackers, whole wheat pretzel sticks
Drawer 3 - sweets - pre-portioned cereal in Ziploc bags, 100-calorie packs (or pre-portioned in Ziploc bags) of small cookies, Nilla wafers
