Fun Freetime: Indoor Butterflies

For much of the country, the winter season brings shorter daylight hours and more time spent inside. It's also a time when plants and bright colors in the natural world are limited. But you can jazz up the area by creating your own year-round stained-glass butterflies!

Method 1:
Use a butterfly stencil like this one here to make a construction paper butterly and cut a few holes in the wings. Have your kids glue or tape colored tissue paper or plastic wrap over the holes.

Method 2:
Tear colored tissue into different shapes. Paint the pieces onto wax paper using liquid starch. Add one or two more layers of tissue and dry overnight. Cut the waxed paper into a shape of a butterfly and carefully peel off the wax paper.
