Time Tidbits: Angie's List

If you've ever listened to CarTalk on MPR, you've heard ads for Angie's List.

Angie's list was founded by a woman named - surprise - Angie! She founded the company in 1995 and it has grown to include thousands of user reviews. Instead of products, though, Angie's List focuses on reviews of local companies and services - so if you are new to the area and need a plumber, Angie's List is a great place to look up the reputation and service history of prospective companies.

Angie's List isn't free. It does come with a 110% money back guarantee, though, so if you sign up and it isn't what you'd hoped, you aren't out anything (only applies to annual memberships). Costs vary somewhat by location, and there are obviously savings for purchasing a 4-year plan versus 1-year or monthly. Sample fees are listed below for various areas (there's a $10 account set up fee for any type):

Minneapolis/St. Paul: Monthly - $5.95; 1-year - $47; 4-year - $150
Washington DC: Monthly - $6.95; 1-year - $53; 4-year - $170
Chicago: Monthly - $8.75; 1-year - $67; 4-year - $215

As you can see, the fee varies by the size and number of possible providers. Angie's List is not available in all markets. But if it is, it can be a very time-saving sign-up by having so many reviews available in one place.

If you're thinking of having a lot of work done on your house, or are new to the area and just want to browse for good service providers for future use, I encourage you to sign up - just click on the button below to go to the website!
