Shopping: Stop & Shop's Healthy Living

I don't know how many of you live in areas with a Stop and Shop, but if you do, be sure to check out their new Healthy Ideas program. I heard about it through Mom Central and I'd like to share a little bit about it with those of you who shop (or could shop) there.

Stop and Shop is just beginning to unveil this program; when I checked the website there wasn't a whole lot of information there (so the first negative: launching without a fully-functioning website area). Oddly enough, although neither of my browsers showed any information on the page, Googling and using the cache did, so my guess is I just checked at a bad time. It looks like it's going to be a pretty nice tool to help shoppers feed their families well. They will start having a column online and in the weekly store circular with topics like food safety and nutrition. They'll also have sections on the website devoted to allergen and food safety information. Recipes (including ways to revamp popular recipes) and expert tips will round out the online offerings.

Healthy Ideas will have an in-store presence as well. The symbol above will identify foods that meet the USDA/FDA definition of "healthy," (based on nutrition content). Foods with this symbol have low fat/saturated fat/cholesterol/sodium, that are a good source of healthy nutrients (protein, iron, calcium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C).

Hopefully this program, if you have a Stop & Shop nearby, will help you choose healthy foods for your family!
