I know this is a long time coming from the teaser to the first post, but here it is!
Criteria for being included in this list: family-friendly, and a family of four can get in for $20 or less (with a few possible exceptions).
American Swedish Institute is located at 2600 Park Avenue in Minneapolis. It is open Sunday 1-5, Tuesday 12-4, Wednesday 12-8, Thursday-Saturday 12-4. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors (62+), and $4 for students (6-18 or full-time students with ID). 5 and under are free.
The ASI is housed in a castle-like mansion and has exhibits about Swedish life in Minnesota, as well as other Swedish cultural information. There are permanent and rotating exhibits. Current and upcoming exhibits include Radiant Knits: The Bohus Tradition (January 23rd – March 29th), Reflected Splendor: Nordic Art Glass and Its Regional Influence (February 4 - May 31st), Folkmusik Stills (February 25th - March 29th).
The ASI is a member of the Musem Adventure Pass, so check out a free admission ticket for two from any MELSA library!
