Nielsen Homescan is a panel different from any other panels. It does include surveys, which you can earn points for. But the primary goal is to track your shopping habits. You get a scanner and instructions for how to use it, and then whenever you shop, as you bring things home you scan them.
The first few weeks it does take quite a bit of time, but they are getting more and more price lists included in the scanner software, so that takes one step out, and as you get better at it, you'll be able to scan shopping trips in quite quickly. Points can be redeemed for a huge variety of rewards, including toys, electronics, appliances, and much, much more.
