Look Good Feel Better is a program that is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary. It's a national public service program sponsored by the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, and its primary goal is to help women coping with cancer in the specific area of appearance (hair loss, effects of drugs, etc). The website itself has tips on makeover ideas appropriate to the skin, hair, and nail changes experienced by cancer patients, and a few resources for help with careers in the face of cancer. They also sponsor in-person programs, often in conjunction with area hospitals, and provide a search function on the website to help find them. They also provide links and information about their smaller programs, LGFB Teen and LGFB for Men.
OPI, a manufacturer of nail polish, is also celebrating their 20th anniversary. As part of the joint celebration, OPI is donating money to the LGFB program. During July and August, OPI will contribute a portion of the proceeds of every bottle of its top-selling Bubble Bath Nail Lacquer sold, with a minimum contribution of $25,000, to Look Good Feel Better. The OPI Bubble Bath Nail Lacquer benefiting Look Good Feel Better will be available in at least 10,000 participating salons and retail locations nationwide beginning this July.
In honor of its 20th anniversary, LGFB is asking women cancer survivors to submit their stories of how the program helped them cope with cancer as a way to inspire others who may currently be undergoing cancer treatment. Entries will be featured on the Women of Hope is Beautiful blog to help inspire others. In August, LGFB will choose five women with the most-compelling stories to receive a trip to New York City for a makeover and a trip to the DreamBall, a black-tie gala and the program’s largest annual fundraiser, held each year in New York City.
