What is MyNewPlace? It's a free app for the iPhone that allows you to search for apartments. It has a database of over six million places to rent. You can either search for nearby apartments using GPS, or you can manually enter city, state, and zip code of the location to which you're moving. There are a wide variety of amenities to use to tailor your search - number of bedrooms or bathrooms, whether it allows pets, price, and other amenities, such as fireplace, high-speed internet, dishwasher, exercise facilities, short-term leases, and more. What differentiates using this app from using a website is that you can store notes and information right on the listing itself, so that you can easily retrieve it later. MyNewPlace also has Facebook functionality (Facebook Connect to share listings with friends) and Best of the Web three times from BusinessWeek. The Facebook Connect option, I think, would be a great way to share listings with friends who are looking for apartments but don't have an iPhone.

Even if you don't have an iPhone, the website can still be helpful. There are quite a few articles about moving, and resources regarding moving companies. You can also find links to city profiles and other community information by navigating through the website. The website has some of the same features for apartment searches as the app does, and there is even an option to look for roommates using the website.
