Consumer Critique: Smelly Washer

I recently received a bottle of Smelly Washer to review. Smelly Washer is a product designed to eliminate the smell in your washer (pretty self-explanatory name). It can also be used to get rid of the moldy/mildewy smell that towels get after a while, especially if they don't dry out completely.

One bottle costs $17 and each order has a $5 S/H charge (for unlimited bottles). Each bottle will mostly likely last at least a year and includes enough for 24 treatments. The price point seems a little high, but it is very effective, and if your machine odor isn't very bad, you won't need to use it often.

Smelly Washer is all natural - which is a huge plus. It was developed to get rid of the common causes of mildewy/moldy smells in washers - buildup from residual water or excess detergent. Both of these are very common in high-efficiency washers, particular front loaders since the door is often left closed between cycles.

The product is easy to use. You can either soak it in the washer overnight, or soak towels in it to get rid of their smell. The easy-to-follow instructions are right on the package, but once you use it once, it'll be easy to remember. Measuring is also easy - just use the cap or a tablespoon measure.

One nifty feature of the website is the Washing Machine Help page, where you can type in your specific situation and type of washer, and they'll respond with an email giving you more tips and advice to try.

My mom loves this stuff. She has a front-loader and was inadvertently using too much detergent, which was leading to smelly build-up. She used it twice in her washer, and has also used it to get rid of odors in towels, and it worked wonderfully. Our washer is brand new, and doesn't have a problem with build-up, so I didn't notice much difference, but if we do start having problems, I know what I'm going to use!

Other than online, options are somewhat limited for buying. However, many Ace and Hardware Hank stores do sell it, so you can check out your local area and see!

The company has generously offered to sponsor a giveaway, so anyone who comments on this post before August 15th will be entered to receive a bottle.
