Thrifty Thinking: Food Savings

Here are some tips to help stretch your food budget:

- Stock up on dairy products when they're on sale. Milk can be frozen for three months, and butter for nine. If milk is a loss leader, buy a few extra gallons. When it thaws, shake it up and the difference is hardly noticeable (more noticeable the more fat content it has).
- Check out convenience stores with gas stations. Occasionally they have milk for cheap.
- Stock up on cereal. Many stores do special deals when you buy a certain quantity of cereal. Cereal lasts for months.
- Use powdered milk in recipes instead of regular milk.
