I've mentioned Cryo-Cell before, but I wanted to let you know about a new initiative they're doing. To support Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October, they are partnering with the National Institutes of Health to research how menstrual stem cells may be used to treat breast cancer through the C'Elle Breast Cancer Donation
Breast cancer hits close to home for me - as I'm sure it does to many others as well. I have a friend who is a survivor, as is my grandmother and a friend's mom. One of my very good friend's mothers died after a several-year-long battle. I always like to highlight companies that I see are doing partnerships to promote research into this disease.
I had never heard of using stem cells from menstrual blood, but apparently it's a great source for stem cells. Menstrual stem cells offer several advantages over embryonic stem cells: they are easy to obtain from women, they could minimize tissue rejection, and they avoid the ethical questions associated with embryonic stem cells. During Breast Cancer Awareness month, anyone who uses Cryo-Cell services have a chance to participate in the Cyro-Cell Breast Cancer Donation. Cryo-Cell is offering contributions to the Susan B. Komen Foundation. $50 for each purchase of the “Protect Baby, Protect Mom” service and $25 for each purchase of the “C’elle Menstrual Stem Cell” service.
