Target is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Sweepstakes to get people thinking about Thanksgiving traditions. They want to know, "What three favorite family Thanksgiving traditions have you passed or will pass on to your children?"
Well, our kids are really little, so they haven't quite been passed down yet, but here they are.
1) Family. We are fortunate that my in-laws have always celebrated Thanksgiving on Friday, so we can do both families in one holiday. We'll go to my parents on Thanksgiving (after we play music in church, another tradition for any holiday), spend the night, and go to my in-laws. Luckily it's only an hour to each set of parents, and an hour between them, so it makes the drive time minimal.
2) Christmas. Since Thanksgiving is so close to the first Sunday in Advent, we always put up the tree with my parents on Sunday. Now we do in Thursday afternoon, since we're gone by Sunday, and we do our own tree on Sunday.
3) Music. We play music for our church on a regular basis; this year it's bell choir at the Thanksgiving service. My in-laws also include music as part of their celebration; after the meal, we all head upstairs for a folk music jam session.
Feel free to share your own traditions for a chance to win!
