Thrifty Thinking: Make Your Own

Here are some easy make-your-own foods instead of paying for the prepared version at the store.

Bacon bits - Cook bacon, then chop finely and freeze. When needed, break off a chunk and crumble.
Buttermilk - Mix 1 T vinegar or lemon juice with 1 c milk and let sit for 5 minutes.
Croutons - Cut bread into cubes, coat lightly with oil, then sprinkle with seasonings (garlic, salt, vinaigrette dressing mix, etc). Toast on a baking sheet at 350 until crisp.
