Website Spotlight: How Wheat Works

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Wheat Food Council. All opinions are 100% mine.

I just found out about this site, How Wheat Works, an interactive, online website that provides a "farm-to-fork education" on wheat. Website visitors can virtually grow, harvest and mill their own kernels to create their desired wheat food, starting with the selection of the type of wheat (there are three types, which I didn't know). There are four phases – growth, harvest, milling/baking and the grocery stotr. Each one takes just a few minutes to complete, and then the next phase begins the next day. At the end of each phase there are some suggestions to encourage visitors to extend learning through cooking wheat-based recipes, exploring individual state wheat commission member sites and watching harvest videos from America’s Heartland.

Here's the best part: for each participant, the Wheat Food Council will donate two pounds of flour (up to 90,000 pounds) to Operation Homefront, a non-profit that provides assistance to needy U.S. troops and their families. This donation is made possible by WheatFoods Council members at ADM and ConAgra, two of the world’s largest millers.

At the Wheat Foods Council website, you can find a great deal of information for consumers and also for educators (under Professionals).

"At the Wheat Foods Council we believe that teaching people how a whole or enriched grain food comes to be can shed new light on wheat nutrition, resulting in informed food choices."
