Website Spotlight: Zenni Optical

I have been asked to share some information about Zenni eyeglasses.

I hadn't even thought about the possibility of ordering prescription glasses online. I've done contacts online before, but didn't cross my mind to get frames and lenses that way too. The Examiner recently did a review of the site and how cheap the glasses are, written by a satsfied customer.

Zenni says that they use modern materials and manufacturing systems. They can have their products for so cheap because they sell direct - no middlemen or overhead. They rely on word of mouth. They also don't sell name brand frames - just their own brand.

"We take considerable pride in being able to bring to all a very high quality product of great durability, safety and comfort at truly reasonable and affordable prices."

The prices are certainly affordable - frames start at $4 with complete glasses (including lenses) starting at $8. Obviously you're getting bare-bones with that, but you can also get tinting, anti-glare coating, progressive frames, and more.

I haven't had any experience with Zenni frames, but I've read several reviews, both positive and negative about them. They do use overseas manufacturing, so the turnaround time isn't fast, and if you want to buy American, you can't do that. But really, if you have little kids, even if the frames break more easily, they are so much cheaper than what you'd typically find that it might be worth it to check them out next time you need glasses.
