Stock up on pretend play toys on clearance. After Halloween is an excellent time to get costumes for really cheap. You can also repurpose your old clothes and accessories (your kids won't care if the strap on the purse is fraying) - and your old household items as well (many of my daughters' play dishes are old kitchen dishes, like a spatula where the end is too rough to really work well).
