Consumer Critique: Melba Toast

I recently received an opportunity to sample Old London Melba Toast. I received two flavors: Sea Salt and Tomato Basil.

Up to this point, my experiences with Melba toast had been mostly as using plain or sweet versions as teething biscuits. I hadn't really eaten them much myself, and I'm not always into salty crackers, so I didn't know what to expect. I was worried about the sea salt variety, since I'm not a fan of salty foods.

I actually liked the Melba toast much better than I thought I would. The sea salt variety wasn't super salty like I was afraid of, and the tomato basil variety was really good. My toddler didn't like them, since they're harder to chew, but they were a hit with my husband as well. The really nice thing is that since they're very crunchy, they take longer to eat, so they make a satisfying, yet light, snack.

Old London has a recipe page as well. I'd never thought of using them in recipes before, but they have four fun ideas (the Atlantic salmon bites are my favorite). They're also running a Dance Your Way to Hollywood promotion that will send one winner and a guest to Tinseltown, including private dance lessons and tickets to watch the taping of a popular television show. The four-day, three-night, all-expenses-paid vacation includes air travel and accommodations. Sweepstakes entries accepted March 17 through June 30, 2010.
