Have you ever heard of Archives.com? I recently got a one-year subscription in exchange for letting my readers know about it. It’s a site that offers a lot of features for people interested in researching family history. Although you can try to features for seven days for free, a full membership is only $39.95 for a full year - for someone interested in genealogy, that’s just over $3 a month. With the membership, you get a few contact information reports, and phone reports (you can get detailed information about a phone number - this is actually kind of nice for just those random phone numbers that show up on caller ID). You can also easily find county records at $24.95 each (this pays for someone to physically go to the courthouse and track down any available records about a person, within the last 7-10 years).
My favorite features of the site are actually found in the “learn” section. There are tips on how to search for people, how to make connections with your family tree, tutorials, forums where you can share advice, and great articles by experts. The expert articles cover a variety of topics, including international or military records, census records, research strategies, and much more.
If you’re interested in Archives.com, they have graciously offered a giveaway. One winner can have a one-year subscription to Archive.com, as well as a one year membership to Footnote.com and NewspaperArchive.com. Footnote.com features over 64 million searchable original historical documents. NewspaperArchive.com has over 95 million newspaper pages back to the 1750s that are searchable by name, keyword, date, and location.
