Have you ever played water balloon toss? Here's a variant with a sponge. Instead of tossing it back and forth, people try to toss it into their partner's buckets. This leads to splashing, and eventually will probably turn into sponges thrown at each other - but they're soft and wet, so it adds to the fun on a hot day!
Don't have water balloons and want to try something else? How about filling up a snack-size sandwich bag? Be sure to seal it tightly.
Add water to classic children's games. Play duck-duck-goose by dumping a cup of water over the goose's head. Play tag using a squirt gun (it will give "it" more of a reach, too). For Simon Says or Red Light Green Light, squirt anyone who moves at the wrong time.
