Parenting Pointers: Vaseline

Do you have Vaseline in your house? Did you know that it can be used to do a lot more than just help relieve dry skin or chapped lips? Here are some ways that Vaseline can be used around the house.

Gum removal - work Vaseline into the hair around the gum until the gum slides out.
Sticker removal - if you have a sticker that needs to be taken off, rub a thin layer of Vaseline on one side and wait a minute. The Vaseline will penetrate the sticker and it will peel off.
Lubrication - there are lots of ways you can use Vaseline as a household lubricant. It can be used on online or skateboard wheels so they roll more smoothly, or on a finger to get a stuck ring off.
Stain removal - it can be used to remove lipstick stains from shirts or tablecloths.
Shoe shine - it can keep leather shoes looking shiny and new. It can also be used to soften leather in a baseball glove.
Rust prevention - a coat of Vaseline will help prevent rust build-up.
Candle holders - if you want to keep candle wax from sticking to candle holders, use a thin layer of Vaseline before lighting the candles.
Diaper rash - Vaseline can be used in place of diaper rash cream to help protect the skin on your baby's bottom.
Stop squeaks - use on door hinges or water faucets to stop squeaking.
Protection from color - putting Vaseline along your hair line will keep hair dye from coloring your skin if you're dying your hair at home.

Of course, Vaseline makes more than just petroleum jelly. They also make lotions and lip balms. For more information about Vaseline and skin care, visit Vaseline.com, @VaselineBrand on Twitter, or Vaseline on Facebook.
