I recently received a copy of The Club No One Wanted To Join-Madoff Victims In Their Own Words
I hadn't paid much attention to the issue before. It wasn't really personal, and while I felt bad for those who were affected, it didn't hit home with me. Some people had the image that all of those who got caught up in the schemes were just looking for a get-rich-quick thing, but this book dispels that image and provides a glimpse into just who many of the victims were. Some victims didn't even realize they were victims at first, since they hadn't invested directly with Madoff. They feel let down by the system that was supposed to protect them.
The stories are honest and open, revealing a whole spectrum of emotions that would be expected for a betrayal such as this. The book is an easy read, and serve as a reminder to make sure you know exactly where your money is being invested. I'm glad I got the chance to read this book, to put a more personal feel to the stories - and also to remind me to pay attention to my money and be sure I trust my financial planner.
Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in order to facilitate this review. The link to the book is my Amazon affiliate link.
