If someone leaves a drink on wood furniture and a white ring appears, put table salt over it, then over with a towel and apply a warm iron or hair dryer on low until it disappears.
Scratches can be buffed out with shoe polish or crayons and a soft cloth.
Scrape off wax from melted candles, and polish any remaining spot with paste wax.
Blot alcohol spills (instead of rubbing, which can harm the finish).
If the finish gets charred by a small burn, rub gently with steel wool and ammonia, then apply paste wax.
