Chamomile is an herb that has many calming effects. This is a tea that you can give your child when they become overactive, or you can incorporate it into their daily diet by giving them a cup in the morning and a cup before bedtime. Mix equal parts of chamomile and lemon-balm, steep for ten minutes. Add a teaspoon of honey or lemon to enhance flavor and serve to your child warm or cold.

How to Make a Cough Calming Tea

When a child has a hard cough, giving them this warm tea will help to soothe the throat and make coughing more productive. You will need one decaffeinated tea bag, one teaspoon lemon juice, and two teaspoons of honey. Steep the tea for five minutes, add the lemon juice and honey, and let the mixture cool. Remember that children under the age of one should not be given raw honey.

Using Tea to Ease an Upset Stomach

A child can get an upset stomach for many reasons, including stress, lack of sleep, or not digesting their food properly. Tea has been proven to help calm an upset stomach. Ginger is also known for its calming effects on the stomach. So a very good tea for calming and relieving an upset stomach is ginger tea with a spoonful of honey. You can also use peppermint tea, chamomile tea, lemon tea, or green tea. Adding honey to the tea will not only enhance the flavor but also aid in soothing the stomach.

Using a Tea Bag to Treat Pink Eye

You can treat pink eye by simply placing a wet chamomile tea bag over the eye. First you will need to place the tea bag in a glass of cool water for five minutes, and then place over affected eye for ten minutes. Repeat this nightly until pink eye is healed, usually two to three days.

Using Tea Bags to Treat a Sunburn

Tea contains a tannic acid that is known to relieve burns, including sunburns. There are many ways you can use tea bags to ease your sunburn. The first is to take a cool bath and add four to six tea bags to the water. You can also steep a large pot of strong tea, using four to six tea bags. Refrigerate the tea until it is cold then put it in a spray bottle and use on burns. You can also soak towels in the cold tea and apply them to the sunburned area. Remember that tea can stain, so use old towels.

Note: It is best to talk with your child's doctor before trying any of these at home remedies.
