If you find yourself yelling more than you'd like, try some of these tips to tone it down.
- Instead of yelling, try whispering. By lowering your voice or talking differently, you may encourage your kids to pay more attention.
- Take a time-out - for yourself. Count to ten, take five minutes, whatever is appropriate.
- Remind yourself that your kids are kids, especially those under the age of 5. Acting out is age-appropriate, even if it's not pleasant or allowed. Along the same lines, act your own age. If you don't like your kids throwing tantrums, why would they like it if you do?
- Use family rewards. If no one yells for a given time period, then have a fun family activity.
