I would love to have Verizon FiOS in my home. Unfortunately, it's not available in my area yet. I've been happy with Verizon as my wireless provider, and I would imagine that FiOS will come with the same level of reliability and customer service as Verizon Wireless has.
Verizon FiOS is fiber optic television service. It has a lot of benefits over traditional cable or satellite. It is much less susceptible to weather interference than satellite, and is more weather resistant and durable than phone lines or coaxial cable. It also allows for an immense level of bandwidth, which means that you won't run out anytime soon, no matter how bandwidth-heavy the Internet gets with applications, tools, photos, and videos. The American Customer Satisfaction Index rated Verizon FiOS #1 in value, overall quality and customer loyalty among the major subscription TV providers, and it also received "Highest in Residential Television Service Satisfaction in the East Region" three years in a row from J.D. Power and Associates. So it clearly is getting good marks from customers.
There are a lot of fun tools available. They offer "Flex View" which is similar to on-demand or pay-per-view programming, only it also covers your computer and mobile phone as well. You can also use Media Manager to organize your library of videos, photo, and music, as well as your favorite radio stations. Plus, FiOS is turning TV into a social experience for those that want it, by allowing "widget" add-ons such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
Check to see if FiOS is available where you live.
I think this would be great. Right now, we have a spare computer hooked up to our TV so that I'm able to watch online German videos, but I think being able to use Media Manager would streamline that. Plus, Verizon FiOS offers foreign language channels in a variety of languages, including German, which would be an awesome way to keep strengthening the German language skills in our household and keep up with culture and current events halfway around the world. And, quite honestly, being able to bundle the services with cell phone and Internet would streamline bill paying, and probably would be cheaper, especially with a promotion that I'm sure we'd be able to score for the first year or so.
So, Verizon FiOS, got any plans to come to the Twin Cities anytime soon? You've got at least one ready subscriber, and I'm sure there's more.
