My husband and I recently attended a screening for Crazy, Stupid, Love. It starred Steve Carrell, among other well-known names (Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Marissa Tomei, Kevin Bacon). I figured it would at least be good for some laughs. I was a little surprised at the beginning; I thought there'd be a little more background into the couple's "happy marriage" but it jumped right in to the conflict part. The other surprise (and a very pleasant one, at that) was Steve Carrell's performance - it wasn't just all laughs and comedy. He had some serious dialogue, and carried it well.
The plot is more complicated than your average romantic comedy, with several love triangles going on (including the son-babysitter-father triangle that becomes apparent in the first 10 minutes of the film). The film doesn't leave any loose ends hanging, though, and throws in some very unexpected surprises as well!
My husband enjoyed the film as well. Although he didn't quite appreciate shirtless Ryan Gosling as well as most of the women in the audience, even he got a kick out of Hannah's reaction. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening, and well worth our time.
Crazy, Stupid, Love will start playing in theaters everywhere Friday.
