If you're a parent, you know how easy it is to be exhausted - especially if you're dealing with the late-night feeding demands of a hungry infant. Sleep deprivation pretty much always comes with the territory, and according to a new Savvy Parents Survey from Evenflo®, 27% of moms are so tired that they’re actually concerned they might fall asleep during the feeding itself. Thirty-five percent of women surveyed admitted to waiting only about 10 minutes after feeding (vs. the recommended 20) to lay their babies back down if they hadn’t burped, and an additional 23% say they were too tired and waited only a few minutes.
I can speak from experience and say that I did often fall asleep during the feeding. It helped that I nursed, so I didn't have to hold a bottle. And my babies typically didn't need much burping either (another advantage of nursing).
In its newest Savvy Parents webisode entitled “3am Feeding” Evenflo takes a cute look at the challenges associated with late night feeding and the "it's your turn" routine that often occurs between spouses. When a panel of moms was asked about who was responsible for feedings throughout the night: a whopping 74% of moms reported the responsibility lay with them, while only 5% reported having a set schedule with their spouse to share the responsibility.
Once again, from my experience, it was 100% me. But my husband couldn't really provide nursing, and it was easier for me to just nurse at night than wake my husband up and have him get the bottle ready. Instead, I just grabbed our daughter and snuggled her in bed until she was done eating (or until I woke up).
If any of you are new or soon-to-be parents (or know someone who is), Evenflo would like to help you survive those 3am feedings. You can enter to win Evenflo TruVent bottles as a giveaway to help make preparing late-night feedings easier for mom and more comfortable for baby.
TruVent bottles have a 1-piece venting disc system that helps reduce colic and air intake for less gas pain. The ergonomic, angled shape makes the bottles easy to hold and helps to reduce ear aches and reflux. The diagonal volume markings make it easy to monitor milk without interrupting feeding. TruVent nipples are also sold separately in Slow, Medium, and Fast flows as 2-packs and each pack includes 2 venting discs. TruVent nipples have a wider base that provides an easier latch for baby and are made of soft, flexible silicone. Bottles and nipples are BPA free. Bottles come in packs of 1 and 3, in 6 oz and 9 oz sizes. They're available at Babies R Us, Kmart, and Target, as well as Amazon.com.
