Family travel expert Emily Kaufman (“The Travel Mom”) would like to share some travel tips for the Twizzlers Landmark Summer promotion. Emily emphasizes the importance of making the road trip a part of the journey.
- Be realistic. No matter how old your kids are (or even the adults) leaving before dawn isn’t a good idea. Drivers need plenty of rest before getting behind the wheel. Consider departing after breakfast once rush hour traffic has eased.
- Create a boredom bag. Convert a hanging travel cosmetic case into a case full of fun and hang it from the seat back in front of the kids’ seats. Fill each pocket with age-appropriate activities that will keep them occupied and organized.
- Take your trip “online.” From GPS systems to phone applications, trips are no longer a navigation nightmare. Also, there are a wide variety of portable DVD players, gaming systems and phone games to keep the kids happy.
- Think through the snacks you pack. Avoid packing snacks that are easy to spill like juice boxes or snacks that melt. Try plastic bottles with sports tops or lids that can be tightly sealed for drinks.
Twizzlers are easy to share and won't melt, so they're a good non-messy car treat. They're also low-fat or fat-free (although they're pretty sugary so you still don't want to overdo it). They come in a variety of flavors and shapes - pieces, ropes, pull-apart ropes - and are actually pretty fun to play with. I don't normally advocate playing with food, but in a car ride, anything that entertains kids and is safe is fine! They also have a fun new flavor - sweet & sour cherry kick/citrus punch. They have a filling, too, so they're completely different from all other Twizzler products I've ever had, both in flavor and in texture. I highly recommend them if you want some unique candy.
