Healthy Habits: Water and Fitness
Did you know that water provides a workout even if you aren't swimming in it? Water gives resistance to every move you make, which lightly strengthens your muscles. Even just breathing in water builds strength, as your diaphragm and lungs work against the water's resistance. If you normally do aerobic activity, try doing the same moves in water. Even though you're moving more slowly, it will still be a great workout. People of all ages and fitness levels can benefit from some form of water exercise, whether it's formal swimming or just moving in water. So next time you're at the beach, get in with your kids, don't just watch from the sand!
