Have you taken a summer vacation yet? American Express Travel just released their list of top cruise port destinations if you're thinking of a cruise for a "procrastination vacation." The top ports internationally are Venice, Vancouver, Barcelona, Rome, Istanbul; domestically they're New York, Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Seattle, and Los Angeles.
If you're planning a cruise this summer and fall, American Express Travel Specialist Curtis Kowalski provides some tips for planning your trip:
- Determine which destination is a fit for you and decide what your top interests are
Are you looking for an active/adventure destinations or a relaxing beach destination?
Are you looking for a luxury vacation, or is price a primary factor?
Are you celebrating a special occasion?
- Using an agent is valuable resource in planning a vacation, as they have access to unpublished deals, offer 24/7 service and a bevy of other amenities
- If travelers are planning a group trip with 10+ people, it is best to see an agent, so they can check to see if the cruise line has group inventory available. Typically cruise lines will add a ship credit or other amenity for group bookings
- Book early for best rates and availability. Most cruise lines will re-price the fares should they go down prior to final payment.
- Utilize your American Express Membership Rewards Points to off set some or all of the cost for your cruise.
- Always check to see if any discounts apply for senior, state residency, military, or past passenger.
