Mealtime Magic: The Ultimate Cake Mix Cookie Book

For those of you who want to add some variety to your cookie-baking repertoire, but don't have a lot of time or know how to create recipes, check out The Ultimate Cake Mix Cookie Book: More Than 375 Delectable Cookie Recipes That Begin with a Box of Cake Mix.

Cookies come in three basic forms - drop cookies, bar cookies (that are more like brownies), and formed cookies (cutouts and other cookies like that). This book has nearly 400 recipes that includes all three types of cookies. For each of them, you start with a box of cake mix, which ends up reducing the number of other ingredients used. There's everything here - from familiar favorites like chocolate chip and gingerbread to brand-new ideas like citrus-fig thumbprints, plus a lot of variations on familiar favorites, such as many different ways to make Whoopie pies.

The book's introduction is also helpful - a great read for a beginning baker, and a good reminder for those who are more experienced. The cookbook author, Camilla V. Saulsbury, has won several national cooking competitions, including Food Network's $25,000 Ultimate Recipe Showdown (Cookies Episode), and has also appeared several times on Food Network and in magazines such as Cooking Light and Better Homes and Gardens - so she has the credentials to back up the fact that these recipes are wonderful. But you don't need the credentials - you just need to bake a few and taste them!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of The Ultimate Cake Mix Cookie Book to facilitate this review.
