Sweepstakes: Play It Safe in the Sun

The Skin Cancer Foundation and the TPC Network Present Play It Safe In The Sun 2011 Sweepstakes. This sweepstakes is geared towards education men about skin cancer.

The Skin Cancer Foundation and the TPC Network (Tournament Players Club) of golf courses and clubs recently teamed up to launch the Play It Safe in the Sun Sweepstakes. Through November 30, participants can enter to win a three-day/two-night trip (plus two guests) to play a round of golf with PGA TOUR player Brian Davis at legendary TPC Sawgrass, one of the world’s most famous golf courses and home of THE PLAYERS Championship.

The sweepstakes, and the related brochure and microsite are designed to arm men with vital, and potentially life-saving, sun protection information. Caucasian men over 50 represent the majority of people diagnosed with melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Each year in the United States approximately 5,700 men die of melanoma. Adults over age 40, especially men, have the highest annual exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV). About 65 percent of melanoma cases and 90 percent of non-melanoma skin cancers can be attributed to UV exposure.

Program participant Brian Davis is a member of The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Team SCF, a group of professional athletes who are committed to raising skin cancer awareness among active people. Davis, age 37, has already been treated for two basal cell carcinomas and a squamous cell carcinoma (the two most common forms of skin cancer). The first European to win the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament, Davis is now always cautious when it comes to the sun. Said Davis, “There’s always a way to protect yourself. You’ve got to take those extra couple of minutes to get ready.”

There are two ways to enter the sweepstakes, which is made possible by Leo Pharma: Participants may enter the contest online or for a limited time, fill out a print entry form in select TPC golf shops across the country. On-site participants will be able to pick up a brochure with sun protection tips specifically geared towards golfers. The information will also be available on the sweepstakes website.
