Website Spotlight: Rather-Be-Shopping

I recently had an opportunity interview Kyle James, creator of Rather-Be-Shopping.com (also on Facebook.com/RatherBeShopping, who, I must say, has a great sense of humor!

1) What inspired you to start the site?
I was shopping online about 10 years ago and saw the little ‘enter your coupon code here’ box and was like.....what now? I had never heard of a coupon code so I did a little research and found there weren’t a lot of good coupon sites on the web that listed and categorized online coupons. So the idea was born and after a HUGE learning curve we have the Rather-Be-Shopping.com site that you see today. I was lucky to get in when I did and build a loyal following before the Internet was flooded by a ton of copy-cat coupon sites.

2) What differentiates your site from other savings sites?
What separates Rather-Be-Shopping.com from other sites is our strong customer service and our customization features. I really pride myself in helping users save money. If I get an email from someone who is either looking for a coupon or having trouble with one on the site, I always get back to them within a few hours, at the most. But more than, I can usually find them a way to save money on whatever they are buying, which makes my day (and typically theirs). They are typically stunned with the quick response, which leads me to believe that my competition is not providing the customer service that I am. I take a lot of pride in that, and at the end of the day, I know it is what differentiates Rather-Be-Shopping from the rest of the field.

3) What's the hardest thing about running Rather Be Shopping?
The hardest part about running the site is finding ways to continually innovate and not get stale and boring. At the same time, it’s the biggest challenge and I love a good challenge. A lot of good things like our coupon alerts tool and frugal blog have come out of this challenge.

4) What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
After extensive research of amplitude, weight ratios, and the like, the obvious answer is.....I have no flipping clue!
