Healthy Habits: Babyproofing Away from Home

According to a Home Safety Council report, children under four years old experience the highest rate of nonfatal home injuries compared with other childhood groups. Nearly half (49.5%) of these injuries result from falls. Falls also account for 47.1% of all nonfatal injuries experienced by children under the age of one. Evenflo has some great products that are perfect for travel, such as the Evenflo Crosstown Gate, an easy-to-install, pressure mounted retractable baby gate that requires no tools or hardware. It’s easy to transport and comes with a travel bag.

When you're traveling, it’s important to check your car seats and make sure they meet age/weight suggestions. For more information on the new guidelines, you can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

And even though you can't childproof everything as well as your own house, make sure that you give a quick survey of any new place you'll be staying, hitting the high points: get cords out of the reach of kids, keep all sharp and hot objects out of the way, and add outlet covers to keep little fingers out of the outlets.
