Healthy Habits: Cooking Safety

With cookies and families meals, many people do a lot more cooking and baking during the holiday season than normal. And while it's a great family activity, make sure you do it safely. Here are some tips from UL to help prevent injury.

- Stay Three Feet from the Heat – Keep children at least three feet away from the stove and other sources of heat.
- Keep Things Clean – A clean working area helps ensure that accidents don’t happen from clutter.
- Avoid unattended cooking – It’s easy to get distracted, so be sure to avoid leaving cooking pots unattended to answer a phone or multi-task.
- Turn pot handles inward – Inward facing pot handles are out of reach of little hands and reduces the chance of accidental knock over.

You can get other great, important safety tips at commit a minute - it only takes a minute to be safe!
