Parenting Pointers: Juggling a Career and a Family: 5 Tips for Avoiding Burnout

Juggling a career and a family can quickly lead to being burned out. It can be emotionally and physically challenging to work and find time for a family. In order to avoid burnout you must divide your time and energy in a constructive way between your work and your family. Here are five tips that you can try to help you avoid burnout while juggling your career and your family.

1. Take Time Out for Yourself

It's very important to make sure you are happy with yourself so you can be the kind of person you want to be for all of your career and family needs. Maybe you can find some time during the day to take short breaks - just to relax and pamper yourself a little bit. We all need time for ourselves, so plan to make some time for you. Do something that you enjoy at least once a week, if not more often. Pamper yourself by relaxing and watching a movie, reading a book, taking short walks, or maybe soaking in a relaxing tub of water.

2. Get Organized

Make a list of things most important to you that need to be done that day, and put the other things last on the list. Then, designate others around you to help you accomplish the tasks that need to be done that day. Don't hesitate to ask for help. If there are some tasks that you can hire someone to help with, this will make you finish your tasks quicker - giving you more fun time. Be realistic in what you are capable of accomplishing in one day. Using the internet to do some of your shopping is also a way to save your time for more important tasks.

3. Think Positive

Start thinking positive about what you can get done and what really has to be done that day. Being around positive people helps you to stay positive and improves your stress level. Negative thinking only makes you burnout faster. So think positive thoughts that you can accomplish all you need to!

4. Exercise, Eat Healthy, and Get Plenty of Sleep

Practice these three things as often as possible and your life will be less stressful. Exercising your body as well as your mind will lessen your burnout point. Make it a family affair. Take your family for a walk and talk about your day's activities. Eat healthy food to prevent your body from feeling run-down with not enough energy. This will help you to have the stamina you need to accomplish all of your day's tasks. Most of all, get plenty of sleep. Lack of sleep usually makes a person grumpy and hard to be around the next day. You will have low energy levels without the proper exercise, healthy foods, and proper amount of sleep. When your energy is low, you get behind on your tasks and may start feeling burned out due to having extra work the next day to catch up.

5. Ask For Help
Use your list and see who can help you accomplish tasks. Don't always feel like you are the only one who can do the jobs. Somebody you work with might like to help but just needs to be asked. Your family can help, but may need to be given a certain task to do.

Hopefully by using some of these tips juggling your career and making time for your family will become easier and will keep you from having a burnout. So just relax and enjoy your career and family.
