Consumer Critique: Journey to Virginland

I recently had the chance to review Journey to Virginland - Epistle 1 by Armen Melikian. This book was quite interesting. It is not a typical book, it is quite original in its form and style. The book follows Dog in his quest for the key fulfillment. It has been compared to George Orwell in some ways, and I can see that - this book has the same sense of taking a critical look at what is in the world around us. The map at the beginning of the book (with Russia as Whitebearland and Egypt as Pharaohland) gives the reader an idea of what's in store - a book that is both observant and filled with dry wit.

It is not an easy book to read. The author doesn't play around with simplistic language, so I don't recommend reading it when you're distracted by kids. But it will make you feel like you're reading a true adult book. It's full of symbolism and allusion, so it definitely keeps the reader thinking. If you're easily offended, you probably shouldn't read it, but if you want something that's going to challenge you, then check this book out.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of the book to facilitate this review.
