Healthy Habits: Sleep Well

Here are some tips to help make sure you have a good night's sleep.

- Get as much natural light as possible in the morning to help regulate melatonin.
- Consider having tart cherry juice before bed (tart cherries contain melatonin).
- Exercise.
- Adopt a bedtime habit that signals relaxation and sleep, such as reading a book, stretching, doing yoga, or having a one-on-one with your spouse.
- Make sure you're using a pillow that still retains its shape (not one that's super limp).
- If you must nap in the afternoon, keep it to 30 minutes.
- Keep the temperature between 65-70.
- Keep clutter in the bedroom to a minimum.
- If you're having problems sleeping, stop drinking about 3 hours before bed. Although alcohol can make you drowsy, it can also disrupt your sleep patterns, which means your sleep won't be as restful.
